The turning point of this cooperation between the GE Healthcare (GEHC) and the University of Szeged was the succesful competition for an application declared by the Ministry of Economics in 2005. One program of tis appliation was the "Development of medical image proseeing techniques", which came true with the active cantribution and support of the GEHC in 20005-2007 period. A new organisation formed, called: South-Lowland Cooperative Research Center of Life and Material Science (DEAK), to harmnize the contact between university teams and industrial partners. The Department of Optics and Quantumelectronics participated in the "Image Quality enhancement in Computed Tomography" inside the "Development of Medical Image Processing Techniques" programe. The main goal of this research was to develop new, such beam hardening correction method, which can be built in the present CT equipments, with minimal modifying. 
The cooperation between the University of Szeged, GEHC and DEAK keeps going inside the "Image quality enhancement in diagnostic radiology with X-rays", which was declared by the Ministry of Economics. The Department of Optics and Quantumelectronics participate in the "Improvement of the XTOP simulation tool" and "Image quality enhancement techniques" projects. Theese projects contain many partial tasks, the main golas are the finding of optimal working parameters of X-ray equipments and the improvement of image quality besides the reduction of patient dose.
